Our 3rd annual Golf Marathon fundraiser, which was organized by my dear friend Michael O'Rourke, was another tremendous success! As a team, my son Matt and I set out to play at least 100 holes of golf in this special event. However, after teeing off at 7am on a beautiful sunny day, a spirited “father/son” competition ensued...we ultimately agreed to call it a draw almost 12 hours later, after we each had played a record 154 holes! More importantly, through the generosity of many of our friends and neighbors, we raised over $65,000 to help support this unique Oncology Nursing Fellowship Program!
Thank You to all who supported this fundraising event.
I have great news to report regarding the results of the 2017 Golf Marathon held on October 2nd. Once again, my son Matt joined me. Our goal was to play at least 100 holes. However, after teeing off at 7:05am on a beautiful sunny day at scenic Innis Arden Country Club, a spirited “Flynn boys” competition ensued...we ultimately agreed to call it a draw almost 12 hours later after we each had played a record 154 holes! More importantly, we raised over $65,000 to help support my unique Oncology Nursing Fellowship Program! Am pretty achy this morning but nothing lots of Advil and ice wont cure.
Thank you for your valuable support of this very special and highly impactful program. The donations received will be used exclusively to help cover the stipend costs of our planned 30 Flynn Fellows next summer; a 2018 Program Summary (reflecting all participating Hospitals and undergraduate Nursing Schools) will be distributed FYI once it is finalized.
Thank you to the more than 100 individual donors who contributed to the amazing success of this novel fundraising effort.

The Susan D. Flynn Oncology Nursing Fellowship Program was developed and successfully implemented in 2014, initially at Greenwich Hospital, Stamford Hospital, Wentworth Douglass Hospital, and Dana Farber Cancer Institute. Its goal is to attract, inspire, and support the professional development of the next generation of Oncology Nurses. By providing aspiring nurses (rising seniors competitively selected from several of the country’s top undergraduate nursing schools) with a comprehensive clinical exposure to oncology nursing and expert training in compassionate care (through an on-site, intensive 8-week Internship at various of the country’s leading cancer hospitals), our aim is to improve the future quality of nursing care for cancer patients and their families.
In 2016 the program was expanded to include a total of 15 leading cancer care hospitals and several of the country’s leading undergraduate nursing schools. See PROGRAMS section for a summary of the current Hospital and Nursing School program participants.
